The Red Cliff Environmental Department exists to protect the quality of the Tribe's water, land and natural resources. We aim to increase the Tribe's capacity to assure a healthy environment by identifying programs and projects, developing proposals for environmental grants and managing environmental work.
The Environmental Department includes the Environmental Director, Water Resources Program Manager and an Outreach/Education/Great Lakes issues Coordinator.
The main projects include water quality monitoring of streams and watershed protection planning, solid waste management, environmental assessments to assist other Tribal projects and review of permit applications and project plans for Tribal and non-Tribal projects that potentially affect the Reservation or Ceded Territories.
Some particular projects we are working on in 2010 and 2011 include the clean up of the Buffalo Arts property, repairs and replacements of failing septic systems, a source water protection plan for Tribal drinking water, the development of a Watershed Management Plan, the development of an indoor air quality project and cooperation with other Tribal staff for a permit application review process.
