POSITION:  Food Distribution Summer Intern Nutrition Educator

 

LOCATION:  Red Cliff Food Distribution

 

SALARY:  $8.50 per hour, 40 hours per week or total of 17 weeks, no insurance

 

THIS IS A SEASONAL FULL-TIME LIMITED TERM NON EXEMPT POSITION

 

SUPERVISOR(S):  Food Distribution Director

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Provide education material to hopefully prevent youth obesity and promote fruits and vegetables. The nutrition educator will focus on these areas, obesity prevention through educating, healthy eating, meal preparation, food safety and exercise and promote eating fruits and vegetables.

           

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Teach topics on nutrition to all youth.
  2. Develop and conduct demonstrations on cooking and food safety.
  3. Meet with program directors and others to plan demonstrations.
  4. Do monthly newspaper article on nutrition with healthy recipes.
  5. Maintain and submit accurate monthly records on demonstrations.
  6. Maintain filing system.
  7. Be able to research health issues on Internet.
  8. Reporting to funding source through computer.
  9. Other related duties as assigned.

 

SUPERVISORY AUTHORITY:  None

 

KNOWLEDGE:  Must have general knowledge of office procedures.  Ability to use computer and Internet.  Ability to conduct demonstration on cooking and food safety.

 

QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED.  Prefer individual with driver’s license with at least liability insurance.  If no insurance must get within two weeks of employment. Good communication and writing skills and be able to facilitate individual or group meetings and demonstrations.  Must have knowledge of computer and office skills such as typing and filing.  Understanding of confidentiality.  Knowledge of Native American Tribes and the uniqueness of the Red Cliff Community.  Indian preference will be applied in the case of equally qualified applicants, but all qualified applicants will be considered.

 

 

PERSONAL CONTACTS:  Daily with Food Distribution staff and community members and other tribal staff.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  The duties assigned will require bending, stooping, lifting less than 20 pounds, other heavier loads occasionally, writing, standing, and working around individuals.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The Red Cliff Food Distribution Building, which is non smoking building, work setting must be maintained and in compliance with all safety regulations.
