POSITION: (2) Farm Apprentices
APPRENTICESHIP SITE: Mino Bi Ma De Se Win (Return to the Good Life) Farm
SUPERVISOR: Melanie Thoreen, 779-3782
Duties:
Four-five hours each week will be spent on general farm maintenance: weeding, watering, harvesting, etc.
The rest of their time will be spent assisting an Americorp * VISTA Supervisor. Duties may include:
-Working at the Tribal farmer’s market;
- Assist in creating signage for the garden in English and Ojibwe;
-Taking pictures of the Mino Bi Ma De Se Win Community Garden throughout the season;
-Assisting in documenting the progress of home gardens;
-Creating a resource center for community gardeners, assisting in developing “kid friendly” educational tools for Community garden and home gardens.
Hours and Days:
July 2- September 2, 2010
8-10 hours/wk for 10 weeks (Days and times are flexible)
80 total hours
Qualifications:
- entering Bayfield High School Freshman-Seniors
-Enthusiasm in Farming/Gardening and Community Outreach.
-Works well with others.
-Punctual and reliable attendance.
Compensation and Benefits:
-$250 stipend to be awarded at the end of the apprenticeship.
-Opportunity to take home fresh produce throughout the growing season.
